On Thursday, the inhabitants protested outside the Sipcot complex near Cheyyar against the proposed project of phase 3 expansion.
The inhabitants said they had protested against the project, due to its potential impact on cultivable land for more than three years. In February, they prevented revenue officials from conducting land surveys for enumeration of available assets, such as trees and building coverage, as part of the land acquisition process.
“In the SIPCOT complex, no work -related work will be allowed. We will continue to protest against it,” said Farmer S. Mutha.
As per the plan, 3,174 Acres of Land Will Be Acquireed From Nine Farming Villages-Melma, Narmapalalalam, Kurummbur, Thethurai, Nedungal, Athi, Alaprindan defect, Alaprandan defect Than and Deade AGO, in, the anakavoor Panchayat Union Near Cheyyar.
Permanent opposition
The inhabitants of the affected villages protested against the acquisition of land since July 2023. In November 2023, twenty -one persons who participated in protests were arrested, and seven of them were detained under the Goondas law. Later, the main Minister of MK Stalin canceled the accusation against them in January 2024.
The revenue officials stated that the government would provide a compensation of 18 lakhs for an acre of land that would be obtained for the project of recipients. Loss of assets such as trees, agricultural wells and buildings would also be compensated, they said.
