On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the highest civil honor from President John Mahamas in Ghana, an officer of the Order of the Stars of Ghana. He thanked the President and called a great honor and “a matter of immense pride”.
“It is a question of immense pride and honor to be given the highest honor of Ghana … I express my deep gratitude to President Maham, the Ghana government and the Ghanaian people. I accept this honor on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians,” Prime Minister Modi said.
He said the prize was dedicated to the youth of both countries.
“This award is devoted to the aspiration of our youth, their clear future, our rich cultural diversity and tradition and historical ties between India and Ghana,” he said.
Later, PM Modi tweet: “I thank the people and the Ghana government for granting a” officer of the Ghana star “to me. This honor is devoted to the clear future of our youth, their aspirations, our rich cultural diversity and historical ties between India and Ghana. ”
“This honor is also a responsibility that will still work on the stronger friendship of India-Gana. India will always stand with the people of Ghana and continue to contribute as a trustworthy friend and development partner,” he adds
This means the first visit to the Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in more than three decades. The aim of the trip is to strengthen India-Gana’s links and re-confirm the commitment of the new Delhi to Africa and the global south.
President Maham welcomed Prime Minister Modi and said the visit was reflected in the long -term friendship between countries.
“This visit is a proof of deep -rooted historical ties between Ghana and India based on the visionary leadership of the first President Ghana Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the former Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal, as well as the ever -growing volumes of friendship and cooperation that exist between our two sister countries,” he said.
During a joint press briefing with Ghanaian President John Mahama, PM Modi said that India would expand his cooperation with Ghana in key sectors, including agriculture, education, defense, health care and digital payments.
PM also said that India was planning to double Ghana’s trade over the next five years and offered its Bharat UPI digital payments system to increase their financial connection.
