An 18-year-old girl died after a car hit the two-wheeler she was riding on the Koyambedu flyover on Saturday night (May 30, 2026). A minor girl who was on a pilgrimage was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A senior Greater Chennai police officer said Yancy, 18, was the daughter of Mary Stella, a resident of a Sri Lankan Tamil rehabilitation camp in Anichankuppam in Villupuram district.

Yancy befriended the minor girl living in Ramapuram, Chennai through social media. Yancy, who stayed at the minor girl’s house last week, visited a private bar in Koyambedu on Saturday evening (May 30, 2026).

While they were dancing at the bar, the gang of six got into an argument with Yancy. Private security at the bar asked everyone to leave immediately. After they went outside, they had a verbal altercation and Yancy was attacked.

As Yancy and the minor girl were returning home, the gang waiting in a sport utility vehicle (SUV) came from behind and crashed their two-wheeler into the overpass.

Yancy, who was riding in the vehicle, suffered serious head injuries and died at the scene. The minor girl sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to Kilpauk Government Medical College and Hospital by passers-by.

The Koyambedu police had initially filed a FIR in the road accident death case. But they changed it to murder after analyzing the CCTV footage available at the spot. The police initially arrested two persons: N. Balaguru of Ekattuthangal and M. Kishore Kumar of Nerkundram. After questioning them, the police arrested A. Suman Sakthivel of Virugambakkam, Mohan and Muthukannan. They are now looking for the sixth person. Suman Sakthivel was driving the SUV which hit the two-wheeler, a police officer said.

The Koyambedu police are also investigating how the minor girl was allowed inside the bar.
