Just four days after the wedding, a 25 -year -old woman died by suicide in her parents’ house near Ponneri on Monday (June 30, 2025), allegedly because of harassment from her sister -in -law, who demanded one monarch of gold jewelry and air conditioning.
The police said the victim was identified as P. Logeshwari of Nagar Muslim near Ponneri. She married E. Panneer, 37, a private company of Kattavur Village employees in Ponneri, 27 June. Soon after her wedding, her sister -in -law, including sister -in -law, began to bother by demanding jewelry from her.
The police said that the groom’s family demanded 10 monarchs of gold jewelry before the marriage. The bride’s family agreed to give them five monarchs, but eventually gave four monarchs. Panneer’s family harassed her for the remaining one ruler and air conditioning, the police added.
On Monday a couple went to Logeshwari’s parents’ house. Logeshware went to the toilet that night and didn’t come out.
Her mother found her dead. She pointed out the police who restored the body and sent it to postmort. After the complaint, the police registered the case and started the investigation.
On Tuesday, Police was arrested by Panneer and his mother Poongothai, 60.
