Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt on Tuesday (1 July 2025) was re -elected as the president of the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) Uttarakhand.
He is the only BJP leader in the state, from his formation to hold this position twice and in a row. His victory, however, was a lost conclusion because he was the only candidate to submit a nomination for a contribution.
Mr. Bhat, a native of Chamoli and a double MLA from Nandprayag and Badrinath, said he would continue to work to strengthen the party in the state. In 2022 he first took over as the head of BJP in Uttarakhand, followed by Madan Kaushik.
Political observers see the re -election of Mr. Bhat as President Uttarakhand BJP as a decision to please the bank Brahmin voting, which protested against the selection of parties since then. The state from BJP came to power in 2017, had three main ministers, all of them.
This time, the Saffron Party also chose the main minister of the Thakur community and the President of the State Unit from the Brahmin community to please two communities that make up more than half of the voters in the state. Before the appointment of Mr. Bhat as President BJP for Uttarakhand and Mr. Dhami as the main minister, the party had Tirath Rawat and Madan Kaushik and Trivendra Rawat and Bansidhar Bhagat as CM and State President.
The central observer BJP Harsh Malhotra announced the re -election of Mr. Bhatt. On this occasion, the main Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and leaders of leaders, including the State of Dushyant Gautam, were present. Mr. Bhatt thanked the party’s central leadership for his faith in him.
