Zohran Mamdani, a 33 -year -old democratic socialist and a member of the State Assembly, officially won a democratic mayor in New York and defeated former governor Andrew Cuoma and shook the city’s political facilities.
“Last Tuesday, the Democrats spoke in a clear voice and supplied a mandate for an affordable city, the politics of the future and a leader who is not afraid to defend himself against growing authoritarianism,” he said. “I am humiliated by the support of more than 545,000 New Yorkers who voted for our campaign, and I am excited to expand this coalition even further by defeating Eric Adams and winning the city government that gives work people first.”
Victory confirmed after the number of selection
The Associated Press called the race on Tuesday after the election board published the results of the voting table of the elevated selection. Mamdani completed 12 percentage points ahead of Cuomo.
His victory has been expected since he secured the commanding lead of June 24, but only the shy fell from the 50% of the Prague need to avoid further counting within the city election voting system.
Stunning upset over political heavy weight
Mamdani launched his campaign as a practically unknown character, while Cuomo leaned on decades of name recognition and his impressive fundraising machine. Cuomo’s offer on comeback, however, hampered the scandal of sexual harassment, which forced his resignation four years ago.
The populist platform resonates with voters
Mamdani has built his campaign around promises to expand the urban services and inequality in inequality:
- Free city buses
- Child Care FREE
- Freezing rent for tenants in apartments stabilized rent
- Grocery trade
- Higher taxes from the rich to pay for it
Democratic establishment puts to hug
While some democratic leaders appreciated Mamdani’s energy, many remain careful. His criticism of the enforcement of law, its use of the concept of “genocide” to describe Israeli actions in Gaza and his embrace of democratic socialism became lightning.
The general election field is formed
Mamdani will now face overcrowded general elections that include:
- Existing mayor Eric Adams, who runs as independent after he dropped out of a democratic primary in the middle of the now discussed bribery.
- Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
- Independent candidate Jim Walden.

Victory Epstein Clinches after Choice Count Evaluation
The primary elections were closed on June 24, but the race remained undecided until Tuesday, when the city council published the results of voting on the selection that Epstein confirmed as the winner. Now it is going to the general elections this autumn.
Epstein, a former lease organizer and lawyer who has been working in the State Assembly since 2018, thanked voters for their trust.
Weiner’s long offer ends with defeat
Weiner, once a prominent democratic voice in Congress, entered the race in the hope of reviving his political career, which collapsed more than ten years ago under the weight of sex scandals.
In 2011, he resigned from Congress after sending explicit paintings to a university student and his subsequent offer of the mayor was derailed by revealing that continued his behavior. In 2017 he admitted to the transfer of obscene material to a 15 -year -old girl and served a prison.
Epstein is now heading for the November General Elections, where he will face Republican and third parties.
