Youtuber and Travel Vlogger Kanika Devrani claimed to have been dazed and robbed while traveling around Brahmaputra Mail from Delhi to Guwahati 26 June. The incident, which was allegedly held in coach 2AC, raised concerns about the security of personal passengers.
In a video shared on Instagram called “Travel Safe”, Devrani claimed that she had lost consciousness during the journey and found that her iPhone was missing when the train stopped at the new Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal. She claimed that an unauthorized person entered her section, sprayed sedative and stole the phone. The co-traveler also announced a similar experience, she said.
“Tickets for the first class AC were not available, so I booked 2AC ticket when I thought it would be safe. In New Jalpaiguri while I was sleeping and charging my phone near my berth, someone took it,” Devrani said in her winch.
Vlogger asked how someone without a valid ticket was able to enter a reserved coach. She also claimed that the RPF protection staff did not cooperate with her even after she found the phone through the tracking application in the Malda district in West Bengal.
The railway reacts
Devrani also published an incident on social media, described the police of West Bengal and the police of Malda, and urged the authorities to act.
Railway Seva (@railways), who responded to her complaint, wrote on X: “She escalated the official concerned for the necessary measure.”
The incident triggered an online rush of reaction, with several users called for a lack of security on long distance trains, especially for women.
“Very sad that I see it. Thank God, that you are safe, canic,” one user said, while the other wrote, “Is it really so easy to enter the reserved coaches without supervision? What security do you provide to your passengers?”
Some also criticized the wider state of railway safety. “Security is a joke in India,” he read one comment.
From now on, there is no official word from RPF or local police about whether an investigation has started.
