In China, a 15 -year -old boy was forced to do 1,000 deep squats as a punishment that caused serious health problems and let him need to transplant kidneys. It happened in August 2023 after a boy named Ajun was caught to steal money from a parked car.
Because he was under 16 years old, the police sent him instead of a prison for a remedial school. His father, Jiang Peifeng, his father, thought it would help to improve his behavior.
“He was a bit criminal, but he had never broken the law before. They didn’t tell me what he did; they just said they would tell me as soon as things were clarified,” said Jiang Guangxi Daily News.
Father called and said that Ajun was in critical condition. In the hospital, the father saw his son’s body swollen and full of ulcers.
Later, his father found out that Ajun and other students were punished by the drill instructor who made them make hundreds of squats in 45 minutes. This rough treatment caused serious damage.
“The instructor made me make them with my hands clamped behind my head. I counted about 1,000. Then my legs were shaking and I could hardly stand,” Ajun quoted South Morning.
Soon thereafter he saw blood in the urine and had swollen legs. Even after the diagnosis of kidney problems, his hard training continued. He was also slapped and kicked the instructor.
His father sold his house and took a huge loan of 450,000 yuan ( £54 Lakh) pay for treatment. The doctors confirmed that the condition of the boy was caused by a serious physical punishment.
A lawsuit was filed against the school and the local police. The case was heard again on June 18. However, the sentence is still waiting.
Reaction
The incident caused public anger in China and raised serious questions about students and the safety of children in such remedial schools. Many people online expressed anger in extreme punishment.
“What idiot instructor gives out 1,000 squats? This is something that even special forces wouldn’t survive,” SCMP quoted one user.
Others commented: “The instructor is inhuman. But, a child, you should also have the right and courage to say no!”
