RCB are unlikely to stage a victory parade in Bengaluru after winning the IPL title
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are unlikely to stage a victory parade in Bengaluru after successfully defending their IPL 2026 title, according to PTI.
RCB beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the IPL final on Sunday to clinch their second title in a row. However, the franchise has decided not to hold public celebrations in the city, citing security concerns and existing police guidelines.
The decision comes almost a year after a stampede near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium claimed 11 lives during celebrations following RCB’s maiden IPL title win. The incident sparked widespread outrage and prompted intervention by the Karnataka government and judiciary.
According to PTI, the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also influenced the decision. The event, to be held at the Lok Bhavan, is expected to attract a large crowd and will require heavy deployment of police personnel.
As the Governor’s residence is located near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the authorities are expected to maintain heightened security in the area.
“It is highly unlikely that there will be any activity in Bengaluru. There are certain guidelines and we have to stick to them,” an RCB source told PTI.
Bengaluru police had earlier issued an advisory asking the public to avoid road celebrations, bursting of crackers and any activity that could disturb public order in case of RCB victory.
“We have issued a warning asking fans not to celebrate publicly on the streets and especially not to disturb peace and security. We will not allow any public celebrations. If anyone wants to celebrate, they can do so indoors,” Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said.
Apart from security considerations, several RCB players are set to leave for international assignments. Devdutt Padikkal is expected to join the Indian Test squad ahead of the one-off Test against Afghanistan, while overseas players including Josh Hazlewood, Tim David, Jacob Duffy and Romario Shepherd have national team commitments.
RCB’s title celebrations are currently expected to remain low-key despite the franchise becoming only the third team in IPL history to successfully defend the trophy.
