DVAC registers case against Tahsildar, VAO at Vellore

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has booked Tahsildar and Village Administrative Officer (VAO) in Vellore for issuing patta for government lands.

DVAC sources said K. Venda was working as land acquisition tahsildar (LA) in the Revenue Divisional Office (RDO) in Vellore and S. Suresh was working as VAO for Veppankuppam village, which comes under Anaicut taluk in the district.

Initial investigation revealed that Venda was working as Tahsildar for Anaicut taluk in 2023-24 when she allegedly issued a patta for around 1,700 square feet of government land that was allotted for residential quarters for police personnel.

Along with VAO Suresh, Tahsildar Venda made false entries in the administrative records to issue a patta for the land to R. Umapathy, husband of Veppankuppam panchayat president U. Suganya. Following the revelations, cases were booked under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigations are underway.
