Billionaire Jeff Bezos and former journalist Lauren Sanchez celebrated their wedding on Friday with a rich ceremony at San Giorgio Maggiore, a historic and remote island in the Venice district of San Marco. The event was part of the big three -day celebration in the city.
About 200 high-ranking guests, including the Kardashian-Jenner family, Bill Gates, Karlie Kloss, Oprah Winfrey and Usher, have been seen on the island of on-board taxis. However, the festivities remained hidden from the public’s eye, while the guests reportedly followed the strict ban on social media during celebrations.
The ceremony ended quietly, with one remarkable revelation – Vogue released a digital cover with Sanchez in her wedding dress. The dress designed by Dolce & Gabbana took a year. This represented a high lace neckline, corset bodice and 180 buttons covered with silk chiffon. According to CNN, it later turned into two other clothes: Sweetheart-HECK dress inspired by Gilda from 1946 for dinner and dazzling Oscar de la Renta decorated with 175,000 crystals.
San Giorgio Maggiore, known for its stunning marble Renaissance architecture designed by Andrea Palladio, was probably chosen for its beauty and privacy.
Local protests against the wedding reportedly led to the last minute changes in some places. Demonstrators, critical of what they consider to be a rich takeover of the city, used banners, channel blockages and even Bezos figurine, CNN reported. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Tourism in Venice estimated that the wedding itself could generate almost 68% of the annual tourism revenue in the city for just a weekend, the report continued.
It is still unclear whether the Bezos and Sanchez are legally married. The city official said CNN that Venice had not received any official request to register marriage, suggesting that the ceremony was symbolic. Not long after the photos of Vogue appeared, Sanchez changed her handle of Instagram to Lauren Sanchez Bezos.

While the official details of the artists were held under the wrap, the Italian media reported that Matteo Bocelli, the son of the famous Tenor Andre Bocelli, opened the night with the performance “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley. Bocelli also sang at Kim and Kourtney Kardashian weddings.
Lady Gaga is expected to close the celebrations on Saturday with performances in the Venice Arsenale – former shipyard, which is now used as a cultural place for the Venetian Biennial.
