The World Cup final in the test can be one of the largest accessories in the modern cricket calendar, but the former head coach of India Ravi Shastri feels that he is still on his early days in terms of global popularity. Therefore, according to him, the Lord’s most suitable place remains – at least for now.
When he talked to Wisden, Shastri said that the iconic London Ground helps to draw attention to the competition, even if England is not involved. He believes that as soon as the accessories grow in popularity, the venue like Ahmedabad and Melbourne could enter the hosting of future editions.
“I think that to start at first, it is good, if it is actually here (Lord’s). As soon as it gains popularity and eyebrows it deserves, then it can start to move. Know that you get a good crowd,” said Shastri.
Criket Council in England and Wales is reportedly ready to host three more WTC finals By 2031, after he had already received a verbal confirmation from ICC. While India has shown interest in hosting the finals, England is a consistent ability to attract crowds – even for neutral tests – in its favor.
Lord recently hosted the finals between South Africa and Australia 2025 and remains the most important place where the clash of the WTC title will be held. The inauguration edition was played in 2021 between India and New Zealand in Southampton under COVID-19. The final of 2023 took place in the oval.
Australian captain Pat Cummins previously designed a rotating host system, suggesting that defending champions should obtain host rights-nahrh, which is still ready for debate because ICC weighs long-term plans for WTC.
