Birmingham 2024, however, is not Brisbane 2021.
England does not play a traditional test cricket. Under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, they turned into a 350+ routine. Do not forget, in this country in 2022, England was chased by 379- without the India led by Bumhrah.
If the Bumrah is excluded, you can bet that England will joyfully shave even the thinnest blade of grass from the surface. They give their tab muscles and pressure on a pile on an Indian attack on the raw pace.
Is it the previous conclusion?
Not necessarily-if India gets their combination correctly.
In Leeds, India decided for Shadul Thakur as the fifth pitch next to Jadeja. It was an offensive move when they chose a bowling versatile over Nitish Kumar Reddy. But the selection of Prasidh Krishna-Hit-inch Bowler-Nad can be reflected in English conditions.
In Bumhrah’s absence, India could consider similar to Akash Deep or Arshdeep Singh-more nalsed on the rocking of the Red Duke. Or they could even throw Yadava as the second spinner.
Two spinners in England? It sounds risky, but not outrageous.
After all, cricket giants like Sunil Gavascar and Souvrav gangules have long preached with the selection of your top five pitchers, not just for horses for courses. And consider this: Ashwin took seven goals in Edgbaston in 2018 in a close defeat. And long before him, the legendary Shane Warne transformed Edgbaston’s playground into a slow, spinning torture. Even Nathan Lyon has 20 goals in three tests.
Could India dare to play Jadej and Kuldeep in Birmingham?
And if Bumhrah is to miss two tests in this series, what are the ideal places for his rest?
Let’s explore the historical balance of rotation versus tempo on the four remaining land-ethbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford and Oval.
If it is a purely game with numbers, Edgbaston, and it might seem the best bets to rest it. But IS data looks image for India.
