The first Florence Nightingale Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) program for nurses was held at Government Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital here on Sunday (May 31), marking a first-of-its-kind initiative for eye nursing education in Telangana. About 200 delegates from various parts of the state gathered for the program.

The initiative was aimed at enhancing professional development and continuing education among nursing staff while providing recognized academic credits through the State Board of Nursing. Telangana State Nursing Council awarded 5 credit points to nurses who registered and participated in the program.

Hospital Superintendent Moudini Pandharpurkar said the program was designed specifically for ophthalmic nurses and focused on various aspects of eye patient care. The seminars covered topics including patient care on the wards, operating theater procedures, sterilization protocols, assisting with surgery, and preparing and packing surgical trays.

The program was resourced by faculty members from the hospital who shared practical knowledge and demonstrations based on their daily work. Videos showing actual procedures performed by nursing staff were also presented during the session to provide hands-on learning experiences.
