After seven years, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation again launched a project to solve the problem of beggars near transport signals throughout the city.
In the last few days, they have identified special teams from the development wing of the city community, which are engaged in begging, near the main intersections and either send them with family members or to shelters, reported about the corporation.
A total of 221 beggars were identified in various circles, especially near Basheerbagag, secretariat, nampally and Begum bazaar, except for various religious places. There were 173 men, 37 women and 11 children. A total of 19 beggars were sent to various shelter houses operated by GHMC after a medical examination, while the remaining were sent home to the relevant places or families after the counseling, the note said.
From time to time, GHC performs special rides towards “Beggar FEE CITY”, during which they identify beggars and homeless and move them to GHMC shelter. During the earlier driving in 2018, thousands of identified persons were transported to rehabilitation hiding place in coordination with the prison department, where they were handed over by skills for livelihood.
