Will CM candidate Shivakumar continue to handle the Bengaluru development portfolio?

Will DK Shivakumar continue to handle the Bengaluru development portfolio as Chief Minister?

According to sources, while Mr. Shivakumar is keen to retain the portfolio, there has been strong opposition from Congress ministers in the city. He claims Bengaluru development needs a full-time minister.

Names of senior ministers from the city like Ramalinga Reddy, KJ George, who held the ministry earlier, and Krishna Byre Gowda occupy the post.

“His personal brand has been too much tied to Bengaluru in the last three years. He has initiated several big ticket projects and to his credit he saw to the restructuring of the city’s governance into multiple corporations and the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). He sees the upcoming GBA elections as his efforts bearing fruit,” he said. So he will try his best to keep Mr. Bengaluru in charge, who is responsible in himself. Shivakumar for the last three years.

However, the former minister pointed out that as chief minister, Mr Shivakumar will be the chairman of the GBA and will continue to run the department even if someone else has it.

“During the last three years, Mr. Shivakumar has set the agenda for Bengaluru and even launched key big ticket projects like tunnel roads, peripheral rings etc. With Mr. Shivakumar as Chief Minister, there will be no deviation from that agenda. So whether he is in charge of Bengaluru’s development or not may not change much,” he said.
