The International Criket Council (ICC) announced updated playing conditions for T20 International, specifying the exact duration of powerplay for matches shortened due to weather or other interruptions. The new rules will come into effect from July and focus on ensuring consistency in field limitations in different lengths of matches.
According to the revised regulations, the eight-over shift will now include a 2.2-over PowerPlay, during which only two fields will be allowed outside the 30 yards circle. Previously shortened games often applied rounded PowerPlay exceeding, such as three exceeded for eight-over shifts.
The ICC table said on its website that 1.5 shifts will be 1.5 PowerPlay exceeding; 2.1 Overs of PowerPlay for seven-over shifts, 2.2 overs for eight shifts exceeding, while nine shifts will have 2.4 powerplay exceeding.
For shorter shifts corresponding to a scale of powerplay scale:
- 5 Overs: 1.3 Overs
- 6 Overs: 1.5 Overs
- 7 Overs: 2.1 Overs
- 8 Overs: 2.2 Overs
- 9 Overs: 2.4 Overs
- 10 Overs: 3.0 Overs
- 11 Overs: 3.2 Overs
- 12 Overs: 3.4 Overs
- 13 Overs: 3.5 Overs
- 14 Overs: 4.1 Overs
- 15 Overs: 4.3 Overs
- 16 Overs: 4.5 Overs
The purpose of these modifications is to ensure fair and standardized gaming conditions regardless of the duration of the match.
Meanwhile in a test cricket ICC introduced several new measures As part of the World Cup cycle in testing 2025-2027 (WTC). Among the most important are the implementation of stop hours that deal with slow rates – the function already used in limited overs formats.
According to the updated conditions of test matches playback, the field of the field must be ready to start a new one within 60 seconds after the previous is completed. The electronic clock appears on the ground and counts from zero to 60.
“The field of the field must be ready to start each within 60 seconds of the previous completion,” ICC said. “The electronic clock appears on the ground that counts seconds from zero to 60.”
Teams will receive two warnings for the delay. The third infraction will result in the firing party will be imposed five penalty runs. These warnings will be reset as soon as 80 breaks have been completed in the shifts.
In addition, new gaming conditions allow the captain to choose which dough will take in the case of deliberate short -term run – a step proposed to discourage tactical abuse.
The updated rules came into force with the beginning of the new WTC cycle in Galle, while Sri Lanka hosted Bangladesh in the opening test of the series of two matches.
