“Messi or Ronaldo?” Gautam Gambhir was once asked for viral “this”. “None,” the answer was dead. “I’d go to Rashford.”
Classic Gambhir. Either too simple or too complicated, depending on who is watching. One of the sharpest cricket minds of his generation, yet when it comes to speaking in public, he plays a different game. There is no filter, no pause. There is only a stream of complex instinctive thoughts.
A few years later, Gambhir explained his answer. “If you ask me to choose my favorite team, you can’t just give me two options.” His problem was not players. It was framing. “Who’s better?” He would be fairer, insisted.
But until then, the damage was caused. Rashford’s note was viral, immortalized in lore social media: Forest forever in the culture of the template “You had one job”.
Gambhir wears the heart on the sleeve and his opinions on the microphone. Whether as a dough, broadcaster or now as head coach of the Indian cricket team, he remained … Gambhir. Dull, clear and often rejecting rotation, in and off the field.
It’s not like his predecessor Rahul Dravid, who could hide the strategy behind the three layers of smiles and safe clichés. With Gambhir, what you see mostly, what you get: a tactic who speaks as a fan, a coach’s mandate and a guest talk-show. At a 20 -minute press conference you will know what he thinks, what he appreciates and very likely, what is on his nerves.
Viral press conference
For example, take Tuesday in Leeds.
Rishabh Pant just broke the twin century. The team accumulated five hundred. And yet when a journalist tried to ask a panty performance, Gambhir cut it off in the middle of the sentence.
“Coach, talks about positives … Rishabh Pant, two centuries. As it was to testify that the knocking of Rishabh Pant and of course he is vice -chairman is among the leaders of this group, as he took over,” the reporter asked.
“There are three more centuries,” Gambhir said. “These are also big positives. Thank you. So I would like to say that a hundred from Yashasvi, a hundred from SHUBMAN to debut as a captain, a hundred from KL and two centuries from Rishabh.”
This was followed by Vintage Gambhir: Praise, Shadow, Context, and a reminder that “We’re going there to achieve the results.”
He turned the interview with his long-term pet-session of individual brilliance over the team’s results.
“Yes, the individual performances are good. But at the end of the day we go out to win the test match. And unfortunately it wasn’t the result.”
Does it sound familiar? It is the same Gambhir who spent ten years reminding people that the 2011 World Championship did not win six, but a team, including the opening explosion of Zheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh’s versatile brilliance and his own 97 under pressure in the final.
Sometimes it looks as if it wasn’t just anti-Ingivolism. It’s an anti-antenual sport. If he asked “Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps?”, Probably said “relay team”.
It was a fair point, buried there somewhere. Gambhir had the right to emphasize the team brilliance: five centuries, five goals. These are not footnotes. But maybe, maybe, it didn’t have to be that way, not that day. He could leave it, like an opener who released one on the green playground under the London Skies. Instead, he leaned, leaning on it and changing a gentle nudging into a full -fledged sermon. What could be the silent nodding of the Spirit team has become something else completely.
The last case of the street 221b
And that was all about the legends on the social media to turn over to overdrive. ‘
When the Virt Kohli and Rohit Sharma withdrew from the test cricket, the emptiness opened on Twitter still touched the 221b Rumor Street Street to think of a new secret quickly. The last case? “Hat Gambhir Rishabh Pant?” The theory that has now been examined with forensic enthusiasm by the usual suspects across timelines and fibers.
Why were the pants on the bench during the Champions trophies? Why isn’t the T20i mixture? Why a reminder that he still needs “constantly playing” in tests? The Sleuths keyboard turns into the conclusions.
The addition of fuel was a recent anecdote by Ajay Jadeja – immediately twisted to fit into the story “Gambhir vs Pant”. Jadeja remembered the exclusion of the hinge of the early group in the 2015 Ranji season and mentioned how selectors and Captain Gambhir discussed the combinations. But his bigger point was about Pant’s Clailand: “When they need me, they call me from home,” said Pant, not of bitterness, but faith.
Gautama Gambhira Hate for Rishabh Pant is not recent – it started 10 years ago
Listen to Jadeja, Lord:- He was the coach Delhi in the ranja trophy
Selector wants a pants in the team but the captain clearly said no to integrate pants
And guess who was the captain?pic.twitter.com/ykubbtbf2s– Rough Shekhawat (@Wordofshekhawat) June 25, 2025
Let’s start with the facts
If Sherlock Holmes signed up on Twitter, the facts would start. When Kohli followed the former Captain Rohit last month to retire, SHUBMAN GILL was a pioneer of the captain. And who was appointed Vice Captain, supported by selectors and team management led by Gambhir? Rishabh Pant.
Gambhir was actually among the Panty champions. Appreciated the much debated taste and the courage of the goal During these unforgettable shifts in Sydney and Brisbane in Trophy border Gavascar 2020–21.
Let’s go back to the Ranji Trophy 2015 season. Pant eventually made his first -class debut in the middle of the season under Gambhir Captain. The best season of IPL Pant, 684 runs in 2018, was also under Gambhir Captain.
The Twitter cricket always finds a fight. But this is not. This is not a rupture; It is a team in the transition and coach trying to stabilize the ship.
India has only won three of its last 11 tests. The transition is real, high pressure. Gambhir is now supervising the younger team, minus three of his biggest match winners.
In Birmingham there is a comeback for a script. This is not time for fiction or madness. Best cut the mess and let the cricket talk.
