US President Donald Trump Tom Homan gave a fire response to the mayor of NYC Zohran Mamdani’s promise to exclude ice from urban facilities and warned the progressive democrat that the federal government was ready to escalate operations in a sanctuary like New York.
“It’s a game,” Homan said sincerely talking to Fox News, the day after Mamdani declared a democratic primary victory over the former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Mamdani’s promise: “Kick out fascist ice”
Mamdani, 33 years, State Assembly from Queens and a Democratic Socialist, made immigration policy the main pillar of his concerning campaign.
“Zohran Mamdani will fight Trump’s Workers’ Groove attempts and deliver a city where everyone can afford a dignified life,” says his campaign website. “They will ensure that our immigration New Yorčans are protected by strengthening our shrine device: getting ice from all urban facilities and termination of any cooperation, increasing legal support and protection of all personal data.”
He promised that “Trump-of New York” feelings, and accused the President of using ICE to “rip New Yorkers from their families”.
Homan: “Federal law trumps him every day”
Homan rejected Mamdani’s promises as a political rhetoric without a legal position.
“The federal law exceeds it every day, every hour every minute,” Homan said. “We will actually be in New York, because it is a shrine and President Trump explained it a week and a half ago – we will double and triple to the sanctuary.”
Ice on the ramp in NYC, says Homan
The former ICE director said that New York is now the highest priority for recovering immigration because of its sanctuary policy.
“We will focus on the sanctuary because we know that they are released by the threats of public security and the threats of national security back on the street,” Homan explained. “So we know we have a problem there.”
He added: “Not only will we send more agents to the neighborhood, but we will increase the recovery in the workplace ten times.”
“We don’t have this problem in Florida”
Homan contrasted the situation in New York with Florida, where, as he said, the local enforcement of the law fully cooperates with ICE.
“We do not have this problem in Florida, where the Sheriffs work with us,” he said. “So we will double and triple in New York.”
