Bomb hoax at Tiruchi Collectorate on the eve of Vijay’s visit

A bomb threat email sent to the Tiruchi Collectorate on Sunday afternoon, ahead of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s visit to the city on Monday, sent the police into a frenzy. An email received on the Collectorate’s official email address at around 2.30pm claimed that a bomb would explode in the compound before noon on Monday. Thereafter, a team from the Tiruchi District Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, led by Inspector M. Velusamy, along with Cantonment Police personnel, conducted an intensive search using metal detectors and sniffer dogs. The search continued until 6 p.m. However, no explosives or suspicious materials were found. Police later confirmed the email was a hoax.
