A man involved in the illegal purchase and sale of foreign cigarettes without legal warning or tax documentation was arrested by the team of the Commissioner’s working group together with the police Afzalgunj during the raid near the Gowwigud bus warehouse.
The accused, identified as 27 -year -old Manohar Singh, Gowwiguda Chaman resident, reportedly imported foreign cigarette brands from Delhi using private transport services. During the air raid, the police confiscated 322 cartons with seven foreign brands worth 7.05 GBP Lakh. The police said that each brand is sold in bulk, with most boxes containing ten smaller packets.
According to the police, Singh initially worked in the marketing business of a cigarette lighter, but turned to an illegal foreign cigarette trade in trying to make easy money.
Officials noted that these foreign cigarette packages did not provide compulsory medical warnings needed under the Cigarette Act and other tobacco products (COTPA), which stipulates that 85% of the packaging must show image and text warnings. The accused together with the seized items were handed over to the police Afzalgunj for further investigation.
