Former Chief Minister’s statue vandalized in Nandyal, suspect arrested
Former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s statue was allegedly vandalized in broad daylight at Nandyal town’s Srinivasa Nagar main ring road on Sunday.
According to the police Ch. Jambulaiah, a resident of Chakalipet in Nandyal town, has been identified as the person responsible for the act. He allegedly climbed onto the statue’s platform and damaged the statue with a stone. The statue’s head was allegedly cut off and the accused showed it to the onlookers, causing commotion among the onlookers.
Police rushed to the scene and took Jambulaiah into custody. They suspect that the accused is mentally disturbed and addicted to alcohol.
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders and activists gathered at the spot and staged a dharna demanding strict action against those responsible. They claimed that supporters of the ruling party were behind the vandalism.
TDP leaders refuted the allegations, saying it was the act of an individual with no political connections. The person was taken into custody and an investigation is underway.
