Sharing Our Experience with the Barcelona Gluten-Free Food Tour
Hi friends! How are you? I hope you’re having a fantastic week. We’re enjoying being back home, though we’re definitely missing our Spanish adventures. After spending five weeks in Europe, I’ve gotten used to that lifestyle!
One of the highlights of our trip was discovering how much we all loved Barcelona. It was our first time visiting, and due to some travel delays, we ended up spending the last four days of our trip there. It left such an impression that we’ve already decided we have to go back.
The absolute highlight of our time in Barcelona was the Gluten-Free Food Tour, led by a fantastic guide.
As you may know, we’re big foodies and love exploring local meals and restaurants wherever we travel. During my health journey, I’ve been strictly gluten-free, and in January, we discovered that P has a significant gluten sensitivity. While I’m used to navigating the gluten-free world, P is still adjusting, and it can be frustrating for her when there aren’t many gluten-free options available.
To make our time in Barcelona extra special, I did some research and discovered that the city is a haven for gluten-free food. I found a popular gluten-free food tour and immediately signed us up.
When the day of the tour arrived, P and I were beyond excited. Liv was a great sport and eager to try some new dishes.
Our guide, Dvir, was absolutely incredible. He spoke English fluently (our group of 11 was all American) and has been living with celiac disease for 40 years. He knew all the best gluten-free spots in Barcelona and took us to six different locations for amazing food. We tried everything from chocolate and jamón to gluten-free ice cream cones, pizza, pastries, and empanadas. It was truly unforgettable.
The tour was perfectly organized. We walked between locations, and at each stop, we were treated to multiple samples. At the pizza restaurant, our table was loaded with five full pizzas featuring their best flavors. It gave us the chance to try a variety of dishes, and by the end, we were all stuffed and happy.
While I don’t want to spoil all the surprises of the tour, here are my top three favorite stops:
1. Gluery for Gluten-Free Empanadas
The chicken and onion empanadas were out of this world. I’ll be dreaming about them until we return.
2. Cøliaki Bakery
We sampled a range of gluten-free breads, including Nutella croissants that totally won me over. Gluten-free pastries can often be disappointing, but these were light, flavorful, and perfectly sweet.
3. Messi Pizza
Gluten-free pizza is another dish that often falls flat for me, but this place nailed it. The crust was just right, and the flavors were incredible. I even had my first beer in years here—they supposedly offer 40 different types of gluten-free beer!
If you’re celiac, gluten-free for health reasons, or simply a foodie looking to try something new, I highly recommend this tour. It’s best to book well in advance, so secure your spot as soon as you know you’re visiting Barcelona. Check it out here!
Just a heads-up—this isn’t sponsored or anything like that. I happily paid for our participation and just wanted to share how amazing it was!
So, tell me, friends: What’s your favorite foodie destination?
Gluten-free friends: What’s your go-to local gluten-free spot or dish?
xoxo,
Gina
