In the first open criticism of the Head of Congress in his home state, Keral K. Muraleedharan on Tuesday aimed at Shashi Tharoor over his recent praise as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described the notes “quite disgusting”.
Muraleedharan, addressed reporters, said it was worrying that a member of the party’s work committee would continue to praise a political opponent, especially during the election season.
“He is a member of the work committee. It is quite disgusting that a member of the work committee continues to praise the political opponent of Congress,” he said.
Mr. Muraleedharan’s comments came the day after Mr. Tharoor described “energy, dynamics and willingness to involve” in the newspaper article as a “first -class asset” for India on the global scene and added that the Prime Minister deserved more support.
Praise Mr. Tharoor for Mr. Modi came at a time when the congress is constantly attacking the center led by BJP over its foreign policy and claims that Indian diplomacy is “broken” and the country stands “isolated” around the world.
Asked if disciplinary measures were needed against Mr. Tharoor, he answered: “Whether they should be taken or not – provoke a high command to decide and inform us.”
Mr. Tharoor said in Thiruvananthapurama that he had differences in opinions with some in the party leadership, but refused to talk about those with regard to the ski slopes of Nilambur. The veterans leader said that Congress, his values and his workers are very expensive.
