Every new cricket era needs a strong start – a solid first brick in the foundation. For SHUBMAN GILL, this first test as the new Indian Captain of the Red Ball ended in disappointment because England was chasing 371 in Leeds to take the lead 1-0 in a series of five matches. But despite the failure, Gill remained composed in his presentation after the match and offered a sincere assessment of where things went wrong for his team.
India was not played during all five days. In fact, for the large parts of the game they held the upper hand. Five different Indian doughs, which have been seen for centuries – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kl Rahul and sensational twins by Rishabh Pant. But the problem was what happened between these moments of brilliance.
ENG VS Ind 1. Testing Day 5: The most important
In both shifts, India collapsed dramatically after the dominant positions. From 430/3 in the first shifts, the last seven goals have lost only 41 runs. In the second shift it was 287/3 in one point, but the final total number read 364. Inability of the center and The lower capitalization command has proven to be expensive.
Gill, who spoke after the match, acknowledged this formula. He noted that India was in command positions in both shifts, but could not end strong. He admitted that the problem had to deal with the second test.
“We thought we would get around 430-435 yesterday and then tried to declare. Unfortunately, our last six goals have only added around 20-25 runs, which is never ideal. Even today, after their brilliant introductory partnership, I felt we had our chances – things just didn’t go in this match.
The Indian field also left a lot desirable. The team dropped several catches on both shifts—Sex total – with Yashasvi Jaiswal laid four alone. One of them came when Ben Duckett was 97; He continued the score of 149 and won the match player.
Gill did not avoid this solution. He admitted that the team had to improve in the field and take advantage of their chances, especially on the decisive recent days, where one missed opportunity can turn the game.
“Even though we dropped several catches and our lower order did not contribute as we would like, I am still proud of the overall effort we spent,” Gill added.
The loss was harder because the 371-run persecution in England was their second highest successful persecution of the fourth shift in the history of the Test-A highest in headingley. Zak Crawley and Duckett from the 188-running opening booth were set by tone and Indian pitch, including star names such as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, tried to make breakthroughs.
Yet Gill was not very critical. He acknowledged that the party was young and learning, and believed that he would improve over time. Despite early loss, his tone was ripe, focused on growth rather than blame.
“Chances will not come easy, especially such goals. And we have fallen a bit. But this is a young team – we are still learning. Hopefully in the next matches we will be able to improve in these areas,” he added.
Perhaps Gill’s captain did not start by victory, but his calm, clearly the heads of the reflections looked into his potential as a long -term leader. The way forward is long – and for Gill and India it can be just a heavy lesson they needed to correct the tone.
