The Chief Minister of MK Stalin asked the Minister of Trade Unions for the external affairs S. Jaishankar to take immediate diplomatic steps to facilitate the safe return of about 650 fishermen Tamil stuck in Iran in the middle of the ongoing tension in West Asia.
The stuck fishermen include 498 from Kanniyakumari, 78 from Tirunelvel, 72 from thoothuku and three of Ramanathapuram districts. “They face considerable difficulties for escalation of the conflict in the region and cannot return to Tamil Nadu. Their families at home are in deep need, lack information about their security and are waiting for all returns,” Stalin said.
Given the uncertain situation prevailing in the region of fishermen and their desperate families, they were looking for support to facilitate their repatriation to India, Stalin said. “The rapid intervention of the Ministry of Outdoor Affairs in this humanitarian matter would bring immense relief to individuals and their families,” he added.
