Ruturaj replaces Riyan Parag, named India A vice-captain for the Sri Lanka tri-series

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has replaced the injured Riyan Parag in the India A squad for the tri-series against Sri Lanka, the BCCI announced on Sunday, May 21. Ruturaj also takes over as the vice-captain of the team that will take on Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A.

India A will begin their tri-series campaign on June 9shortly after the end of the IPL, with the tournament running until June 21. Parag suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 campaign for RR and missed two league games. He played through pain during the playoff matches for Rajasthan. The Royals were eliminated in the 2 GT Qualifiers.

The BCCI said that Parag will head to the BCCI Center Of Excellence where he will continue to rehabilitate the injury.

“Men’s selection panel adds Ruturaj Gaikwad to India A squad for upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka.”

“He replaces vice-captain Riyan Parag, who has been ruled out of the series with a hamstring injury. Riyan’s rehabilitation will be managed by the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE),” a BCCI statement said.

RUTURAJ AIMING TO DEFECT FROM BAD IPL 2026

This series comes at the right time for Ruturaj as he will be looking to bounce back from a rather poor IPL 2026 campaign with CSK. The Maharashtra batsman has scored 337 runs from 14 matches but his strike rate of 123.44 in most of the games has not helped his side.

Adding to that, Chennai not making it through their third season in the playoffs meant that the scrutiny on the Maharashtra batsman was high.
