Hi friends! How are you? I hope you’re having a wonderful morning!
We’ve been soaking up all the adventures in Seville, staying up until midnight every night and sleeping in every morning. Despite the busy days, I managed to carve out some time to read before bed and finished four books. Two were disappointments, but two were absolute gems. Below, I’ve recapped my thoughts—I’d love to hear what you’ve been reading this summer!
Books I’ve Read Lately
Warsaw by Kelly Rimmer
This book completely broke me. Set during World War II in Poland, it follows a teenage girl who starts smuggling Jewish children out of the ghetto. The writing is stunning, and while the subject matter is heavy, it’s the kind of story that stays with you long after you’ve finished. I highly recommend it if you’re in the mood for something emotional and powerful. 9/10
From Amazon:
In the spring of 1942, young Elzbieta Rabinek becomes aware of the growing turmoil just beyond the walls of her comfortable Warsaw home. Though she despises the Germans patrolling her streets, she’s never given much thought to what’s happening behind the ghetto walls. That changes when she befriends a nurse who draws her into a dangerous world of heroism and deception. As Elzbieta uses forged documents to smuggle children to safety, she confronts the brutal realities of war and the impossible choices families must make to survive.
Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan
This story follows a woman about to marry her seemingly perfect fiancé when she unexpectedly reunites with an old flame who once broke her heart. While the premise of a second-chance romance is promising, and the author’s writing is generally strong (I loved her book Nora Goes Off Script), this one fell flat for me. The pacing felt slow, and I struggled to stay engaged. 2/10
From Amazon:
Sam’s life seems perfect: she’s engaged to a dependable doctor, has a great job in Manhattan, and is planning her wedding. But when she visits her family’s Long Island beach house to scout venues, she runs into Wyatt, the man who broke her heart years ago. As memories of their summer romance resurface, Sam begins to question everything—including whether her future is as set as she thought.
Wedding People by Alison Espach
This book is wildly popular, but I found it to be a bit of a mess. It follows a woman who ends up at a luxury hotel during a week-long wedding extravaganza and gets entangled with the eccentric “wedding people” staying there. While it’s certainly unique, I kept waiting for a meaningful moment or payoff that never came. The ending felt disjointed, and the overall experience was underwhelming. 2/10
From Amazon:
Phoebe Stone arrives at the Grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, with no luggage in sight. Immediately, everyone assumes she’s part of the wedding festivities—but she’s actually there for her own reasons. As she interacts with the bride and the other guests, Phoebe’s carefully crafted facade begins to unravel, leading to unexpected revelations and absurdly funny moments.
For the Love of Friends by Sara Goodman Confino
This one was a delightful read, just as I expected from Sara Goodman Confino. The story follows a woman who agrees to be a bridesmaid in five(!) weddings, leading to a series of hilarious and chaotic adventures. From Bridezilla moments to hideous dresses, this book had me laughing out loud. If you’re looking for a lighthearted, feel-good story, this is it. Highly recommend!
From Amazon:
Lily Weiss is thirty-two, single, and reliable to a fault—so much so that she winds up as a bridesmaid in five weddings over six weeks. To vent her frustrations, she starts an anonymous blog, Bridesmania, where she spills the tea on everything from demanding brides to awkward officiants. But as her blog gains traction, Lily realizes that her secret might not stay hidden for long.
Alright, friends—what great books have you been reading lately? Any classics you’ve revisited? I’d love to hear your recommendations!
xoxo,
Gina
