The science and technology movement, such as free software movements, must be in an alliance with greater social change movements in order to actually bring real social changes, said journalist and author of Prabir Purkayastha.
On Sunday, he spoke about his book Knowledge as Commons-Towards Inclusive Science and Technology in Bengalur.
Mr. Purkayastha, who is also the founder of NewSclic, said that many things about the science and technology we learn from the textbook are not how real science and technology take place.
“Many things about science and technology we learn from the textbook are not how real sciences and technological progress occur, and I think it is important that people in this audience really understand that what we say, how science and technology evolve in a normative sense … it’s true.
He said that little progress in technology can lead to the main progress in science, and the main progress in science can have very few technological consequences.
“The main progress in physics, science has no significant impact on technology, and the main technological progress has very low scientific progress, but it is also the real development of small sciences has a huge impact on technology and the development of small technology has a huge impact on science,” he said.
He also added that the relationship between progress in science and technology is not one on one.
“The relationship between them is not one per per -one, but it is also true that science is a necessary condition for the development of technology, as well as so many technologies is a necessary condition for the development of science, because any main scientific progress now needs huge investment in technology,” he added.
