The 400 -meter -long RK Puram overpass, built two ten years ago, to bypass the level of Rama Kistapuram Railway, remains the only decisive connection for thousands of daily commuting passengers from Nerredmet, like Rao Nagar and Ecil towards Trimulgherry, Karkhana and Secuderabad. Despite its strategic significance, the overpass became a symbol of urban neglect with persistent security fears and deployment of public frustration.
Without a central barricade separating two directions of operation, narrow stripes of overpass force motorists to risky overtaking maneuvers. Sudden swelling, poor lane discipline and lack of calming measures led to a consistent stream of minor accidents, often leaving two wheels vulnerable. Although mostly non -fat, these incidents are frequent and disturbing.
“I use this route twice a day. The absence of dividers makes it free of charge for everyone,” said Sharath Kumar, private teacher AS Rao Nagar. “Finally, you play a chicken with negotiating vehicles.”
For older inhabitants, such as 62 -year -old Rukmini, a nurse retiring from Nirmal Nagar, Nerdmet, the overpass is best prevented completely. “There is hardly street lighting at night. It is a danger, especially for the elderly. During the tops, I prefer a longer journey through the cantonment area from Ammugud.”
Younger commuting shares similar concerns. “Every time I take the scooter at the tops, I’m on high readiness. One bug and it’s a lot,” said Rithwik, 19 -year -old student.
Online also voices louder. X (formerly Twitter) users routinely publish videos of irregular management and small accidents. When the account called “Hiscuderabad” published a photograph of a two -round rider that takes the sidewalk to cross the overpass, the user noted: “When the free road itself is in a slight condition, which is not enough for a quad, do not expect people to follow the rules.” The administrator replied, “Yes, the roads are poor. Yes, there is not enough space for the vehicle movement. However, this cannot be a reason for obvious violation.”

Meanwhile, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has recently launched a structural renewal of the overpass according to the 4.6 GBP plan after a detailed assessment of the engineering division.
The proposed renewal includes the replacement of expansion joints and desperate bearings, treatment of damaged beams and cracked cuts, injectane, reinforced repair of concrete cement and application of anti-repaired colors to protect exposed surfaces from further decay.
While these measures are aimed at prolonging the structure of the structure, the inhabitants claim that they do not achieve a key design defects: lack of median, road expansion and dangerously narrow stripes. “You can’t only solve a traffic problem with engineering banks,” said Sridhar, a pediatrician at a nearby clinic. “This overpass was not built for today’s volume or speed of operation.”
Although GHMC has designed a parallel two -lane bridge in the previous years as part of the Strategic Road Development Program, progress has stopped.
RK Puram Floer Expansion is an endless loop. Few local colonies associated with the MLA, which allegedly confirmed that it would become 6 Lane Road with another parallel bridge. 250 CR approved.

For the time being, the overpass remains necessary and dangerous. It combines entire neighborhoods, but for daily safety and peace costs.
