Iran-Israeli War: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged China to encourage Iran not to close the Hormuz Strait after Washington made strikes in Iranian nuclear places.
Rubi’s remarks came after Iran’s press TV announced that the Parliament of the Republic of Islamic approved measures to close the Hormuz Strait, a suffocating point between Iran and Oman, through which about 20 percent of global flows of oil and gas.
“I encourage the Chinese government in Beijing to call them about it, because it strongly depends on the Strait of Hormuz for their oil,” said Rubio, who also serves as an advisor to national security.
Rubio spoke about Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo” Show
“If they do it, it will be another terrible mistake. It is an economic suicide for them if they do it. And we will keep the possibilities to deal with it, but other countries should also look at it. It hurts the economies of other countries much worse than ours.”
Iran has long threatened to suffocate the Hormuz Strait. Soon after the army strikes the three nuclear spots of the country by its long -term enemy, the United States, Hossein Shariatmadari, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, allegedly demanded immediate retaliation, including the closure of the Hormuz Straits of American, British and French ships.
Rubio said that a step towards closing the strait would be a massive escalation that deserves an answer from the US and others.
Where is Hormuz Strait of Hormuz?
Hormuz is the Strait between Persian Gulf and Omany Gulf. It provides a single sea passage from the Gulf to the open ocean and is one of the most strategically most important points in the world. This strait allows you to go through about 20 % of world oil consumption – around 20 million barrels -.
The escape has been in the center of regional tension for decades and has recently been attacks nearby and targeted alternative routes for ROP by circumventing Hormuz, agency agency agency said.
On Sunday, American officials said they were military “smoothed” main nuclear sites of Iran using 14 bombs bombs, more than twenty Tomahawk missiles and more than 125 military aircraft. The strikes mean escalation in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, when Israel began to strike Iran 13th June.
Israeli strikes on Iran have so far killed at least 950 people, injured 3,450 others, AP press agency quoted a group for human rights.
Tehran pledged to defend himself. Rubio also warned of retaliation and said that such an action would be “the worst mistake they have ever made”.
