The yellow light of sodium steam lamps in street lighting will soon be a thing of the past in the city. The project, which will replace all the energy strips of sodium with steam with LED lights, finally took off.
After the earlier selection procedure with the Pan-City Shapoorji Pallonji failed to take off, Bruhhat Bengalur Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) decided to divide the project into several packages and various companies concluded contracts.
“Out of eight zones, the offers were completed in seven and in the Mahadevapura zone, gentle work is underway, and this will also be completed soon. Once these companies get work orders, they will receive eight months to replace all LED light lamps.”
The proposal to replace all sodium pairs in street lighting LED lights was first carried out in 2017 and the work began in 2018. Although the pelvic contract failed, BBMP began to replace LED lamps on ad hoc foundation where funds were available. Many Ward Committees also took the initiative to install LED lights using the funds assigned to their department.
Before the new offers were called, BBMP took part in a survey of all street lighting throughout the city. The survey showed that there were 5.36 lakh street lighting and more than 45,000 empty poles without any lamps. Of the 5.36 Lakh Street Lights, the survey found that while the 2.50 lakh has already led the bulbs, 2.85 lakh still has sodium lamps that will now be replaced. Empty poles will also get LED lights.
Payment based on energy saving
BBMP officials said that the current electricity account for street lighting in the city is incredible CRORE 25 GBP per month, although 44% of street lighting is already equipped with LED bulbs. It is estimated that replacing the rest of the sodium lamps will reduce this account by at least 50%.
Under the terms of the new contract, BBMP will not invest any money to install new LED bulbs. Instead, companies that packed the contract, invest money and install LED bulbs. Four companies that have now packed four packages (more zones in each package) will be paid 2 crore 2 per month for 84 months (7 years) if they have a 50% of electricity account in their area. The Terms and Conditions of the Contract in the Mahadevapura zone must only be developed.
