Kochi metro workplace accident: SHRC registers suo motu case
State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) chairman Alexander Thomas has sought the intervention of the Ernakulam district administrator to investigate a finance division official in an incident in which a woman was injured after a piece of iron fell on her car at the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) site on Civil Line Road near Padivattom.
The commission has asked for an inquiry into the cause of the accident, the nature of the woman’s injuries, the damage caused to her vehicle, the status of her compensation and steps taken by KMRL and its contractor to prevent similar incidents, the SHRC said in a report.
The Collector was asked to submit a comprehensive report to the Commission within three weeks.
In its directive, the Commission said that the Managing Director of KMRL would submit a separate comprehensive report to the Commission within three weeks. He further ordered that a senior officer representing the Collector and the General Manager of KMRL be personally present to explain the factual details of the case in the next meeting of the commission to be held at Rest House OWD, Pathadipalam, Kalamassery on 14
The commission registered the case suo motu on the basis of a newspaper report.
