The panel of Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple is demanding action against the cops for filing a “false” report
The management committee of the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, in a meeting held here on Friday, decided to request the state government to take appropriate action against police officers who submitted a report on alleged missing gold artifacts and security lapses in the temple without conducting proper investigation or verifying the facts.
A high-level police intelligence report earlier submitted to the home ministry pointed to suspected thefts of valuables and major security breaches at the temple. According to a report, nearly 78 grams of gold bars and coins donated by devotees went missing recently. The report further states that the multi-layered gold lamp, which was removed from the temple premises under the guise of maintenance, was not returned and was instead replaced with a silver replacement with no official records. It was also reported that the sacred ‘Vaira Nama’, a priceless diamond ornament that was traditionally installed inside the inner sanctum sanctorum, was missing for the past six months after it was reportedly taken away for repairs.
He denies the allegations
The temple’s management committee said it had conducted a detailed internal investigation and found that the so-called “missing” gold, the sacred “Vaira Nama” and gold lamp ornaments mentioned in the police report were found in large quantities inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. It said that the temple’s executive officer, who was conducting an internal inquiry, had examined all the temple inventory documents and confirmed that gold coins and other such offerings from devotees were safe and accounted for. The committee also said that the police report that some individuals were entering and exiting the temple without mandatory security checks was false and baseless.
It stated that entry to the temple through the Chempakathinmood gate was restricted to temple priests and members of the erstwhile Travancore royal family. Devotees, temple staff and visitors cannot enter the temple without undergoing security checks by the Kerala Police
The committee further alleged that neither the management committee nor the temple authorities were consulted by the police officers who prepared the report. By doing so, they tarnished the good name and credibility of the temple management committee and administration, the committee said in a statement.
