In the UK, the Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal criticized the opposition for criticism of the government in overseas. Mr. Goyal spoke in the discussion in the Scientific Museum as part of the Indian Global Forum 2025.
The Minister, who spent most of his time on the forum discussing the recently announced India-UK trade agreement, appreciated the British Labor Party for not being built for any obligations adopted by the conservative party on the Indian side, which was in power until the beginning of July 2024 and supervised most of the New Trade negotiations with New Delhi.
“I have to commend the current government for committing myself well before your elections, and encouraged me to make an agreement with the previous government,” Mr. Goyal said, adding that it represents the power of British democracy.
“I would like to commend both of your political parties for this maturity they have shown. I wish we had the opposition equally mature that would not come to your country … and at Oxford University … and launched our own nation,” Mr. Goyal laughed from the audience.
Mr Goyal probably referred to the lecture by the opposition leader at Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi at the University of Cambridge in 2023, in which Indian democracy was endangered.
