It is fulfilled a dream for eighteen-year-old Sushantha N. Prabb of Megaravalli in Tirthahalli Taluk of Shivamogg when he was selected for Iit-Canpur in Uttar Pradesh. The son of a two -round mechanic, Sushanth will study Btech at a prestigious institution.
It is a proud moment for his father Zarasimhamurt Prabhua, who studied up to the SSLC, and his mother Sujath PraBhu, who completed PUC.
Sushanth studied at the government school until SSLC. As a schoolboy, he helped his father in the garage, repaired motorcycles, and this helped him understand how the wheels work and the struggle of his father to meet the needs of the family of five members.
“He started working with me very soon. He can handle engines and well in smaller repair shops,” said PraBhu. “We always wanted our children to study well, lead an independent life, and do good for society,” said Mrs. Sujatha, who sewed her family clothes for several years.
Until Sushanth had reached the SSLC, he had no idea iit or thread. In 2022 it developed an innovative “custom chain” system for bikes. His project was chosen for an exhibition and competition at national level, known as Inspire Awards-Manak, organized by the National Innovation Foundation of the Ministry of Science and Technology. His mentor was his teacher Raghanendra A. Bhat.
In May 2022, they visited the National Technology Institute (NIT) in Surratkal in Dakshina Kannada to participate in the mentor workshop within the competition. “During our visit to Surratkal’s thread, I told Sushanth that if he studied well, he could get a place in Nit-Suratkal. He was very impressed by the campus and the institute. He took it seriously. Now I am glad that my student was chosen to study on IIT,” said Mr. Bhat.
Sushanth feels that the visit to Surratkal has evoked his dream to study on IIT. “That day my teacher spoke about Iit-Jee and the importance of studying on IIT. He wanted me to take it as a challenge to get a place,” he said.
He cleaned the SSLC score of 620 out of 625. After cleaning the hard selection process, he joined the residential school operated by Rashtrotthana Parishat in Bengalur. The Institute offers free PU education with coaching for Iit-Jee for meritorious students from a country environment. During the entrance test he did well and in the first round of the seat secured a place for BTech in chemical engineering. “I plan to work and later become an entrepreneur. In addition, I also plan to prepare for civil service exams,” Sushanth said.
