The promising measures against the sale of non -standard seeds and pesticides, the Minister of Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday (June 18, 2025) stated that the Center plans to change the seeds and pesticides Act to make them a “more gentle farmer”.
After the closure of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a campaign where scientists from the Indian Agricultural Research Council (ICAR) interact with farmers. During interactions, farmers emphasized their two urgent concerns – non -standard seeds and pesticides, said Mr. Chouhan.
The Ministry of Agriculture will take strong measures to strengthen the seeds law and ensure “strict quality control mechanisms, so that only certified, high -quality inputs address farmers, he said.
Minister to meet farmers
Mr. Chouhan noted that Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan was a success and said that the Center would start several political changes to meet the requirements of the farmers during these interactions.
Mr. Chouhan said the campaign would continue and Krishi Vigian Kendras (KVKS) will become a node in every district for future interactions of scientists with farmers. “Scientists KVK visit farms and communicate with farmers three days a week,” the Minister said, adding that he would visit the farms and communicate with farmers two days a week.
“Each state will have an ICAR node officer who will coordinate with a scientific approach,” he said. Although agriculture is a state subject, on this issue brings a technological innovative approach in fields, states and center will act as one team, he said.
The Minister said that teams of 2,170 scientists directly interact with more than 1.34 crore farmers in more than 1.42 lakh villages. He said that the attempt was to bridge the gap in knowledge, research and abilities.
After the amendment of the Seeds Act and the Pesticides Act, the Minister of Agriculture Devesh Chaturvedi stated that the steps would be taken so that the seed law passed at the winter meeting of the parliament.
The aim of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan was to bridge the gap between research laboratories and agricultural areas. “We have seen a remarkable job, but there are challenges. Our focus must now focus on increasing productivity, reducing the initial costs and ensuring that agriculture becomes profitable and sustainable livelihood for every farmer,” said Mr. Chouhan. In addition to Mr. Chouhan and Mr. Chaturvedi, the CEO of ICAR Ml Jat also took part at a press conference.
