US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday (June 18) that he was heading at a high -level meeting to discuss the degree of tension between Iran and Israel.
“We have a meeting down in an hour,” Trump told reporters during an oval office event.
Asked if he had decided on the US reaction, Trump said he hadn’t finished one yet.
“I have ideas about what to do, but I did not do the finals – I liked to decide on the final decision one second before it is due, because things are changing, especially with the war,” he said.
Trump: “You may have to fight”
While Trump repeated that he was not looking for a war with Iran, he also explained that the military conflict could become inevitable if the Iranian edges were close to the development of nuclear weapons.
“I don’t want to fight. But if it’s a choice between fighting and having a nuclear weapon, you have to do what you have to do,” the president said.
At the next point he added, “You may have to fight.”
Trump has long claimed that Iran must never have nuclear weapons. His recent language, however, indicated a growing openness to military intervention.
Iran replies: “Irreparable damage”
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei sharply responded to Trump’s rhetoric, especially the demand of the President on the social media for “unconditional surrender”.
Khamenei warned: “Americans should know that any US military involvement will undoubtedly result in irreparable damage.”
He rejected Trump’s remarks as “threatening and absurd” and said, “Wise individuals who know Iran, his people and his history, never talk to this nation with the language of threats because the Iranian nation will not give up.”
Trump plays Coy on air strikes
Trump, which was immediate, pushed whether the American blow to Iran was immediate, remained intentionally vague.
“Maybe I’ll do it, maybe I’m not going to do it,” he said. “I think no one knows what I’m going to do.”
Trump said earlier that the US knew the place of the Iranian Supreme Leader, but he added, “We don’t plan to kill him – at least not for now.”
American military ready, says HegSeth
Minister of Defense Pete HegSeth on Wednesday assured the legislature that the Pentagon is ready to make any orders from President Trump.
“If these decisions are made, the Ministry is ready to carry out,” HegSeth said during the testimony of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
He refused to reveal the specifics of any review plans.
