Ministers’ statement on paddy purchase contradicts ground reality: BJP State chief N. Ramchander Rao
BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao claimed that the ministerial’s contradictory statements about the volume of paddy purchased in the current yasangi season so far revealed the state government’s lack of clarity on the matter.
Speaking to reporters in Karimnagar on Saturday, Mr. Rao said, “Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy claimed that 60 million metric tonnes (LMT) of paddy rice has been procured in the state so far. But other ministers put the value of rice procurement at between 40-50 million LMT.” These claims are not only inconsistent, they are contrary to the basic reality, he argued.
Mr. Rao said the BJP’s Rythu Bharosa Yatra highlighted the plight of farmers and made the state government aware of the ground reality to quickly resolve paddy procurement issues.
“The state government has created a situation where farmers have been forced to resort to emergency sale of their paddy below MSP after waiting at paddy procurement centers for more than a fortnight at several locations across the state,” he charged.
He further alleged that the Congress leadership was trying to mislead the farmers by running a disinformation campaign against the Centre.
He demanded that all paddy and maize products still lying in shopping malls and markets be purchased immediately.
He further sought compensation for farmers affected by unseasonal rains in the state.
Earlier, the state BJP chief was engaged in a district-level training program for the party cadre as part of the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Prashikshan Mahaabhiyan’ in the city.
State BJP leaders A. Prabhakar Reddy and Devaki Vasudeva Rao, BJP district president G. Krishna Reddy and others were present.
