Approximately 20 bureaucrats faced control for submitting false income and certificate of disabilities to use the reservation in the state -service test (CSE) carried out by the Union’s public services, government officials said on Wednesday (June 18, 2025).
While the probe cleaned most of the names, one officer is still subject to investigation.
Officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and police officers from other trade union services with several years of service faced a probe after complaints at social media last year, the officials said.
Documents on income, caste and physical disability submitted at least 40 of 1,009 candidates who cleaned the CSE 2024 are also investigated, added the official. The test results were announced in April this year.
Jitendra Singh, the State Minister of Trade Unions for Personnel and Complaints, said at a press conference on Wednesday that the investigation was made every time the complaint was received, but the problem was too great to leave only the ministry. It required cooperation from larger society because it had socio-cultural genesis, he said, for applicants who submit fraudulent certificates to take advantage of the reservation in economically weaker parts (EWS) and comparative disabilities (PWBD).
In 2024, the probation of IAS Puja Khedkar was released for the submission of false PWBD certificates and other back -class certificates (OVC) to clean the state services of 2022.
The Minister said that after the Puja Khedkar series appeared, the National Academy of Lal Bahadur Shastri (Lbsnaa) also monitors the activities of new recruits after leaving the training center and informally collecting information when they start serving in the districts.
After coming to the forefront, social media users pointed to cases of nearly 15 serving officers in various services who took advantage of the reservation through fraudulent documents.
AP das Joshi, another secretary, Dopt said that after the case of Khedkar, the medical test mechanism for PWBD candidates was streamlined.
“We got complaints about social media, a thorough investigation was carried out, and in most cases nothing specific was found. There is only one case that we are investigating,” Joshi said.
Another government official stated that the income certificate is verified through the state governments and the Central Council of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and, if it is found that the candidate’s claim is false, no service is assigned.
Since 2019, applicants have not been subject to reservations for planned castes, planned tribes and municipalities, and whose annual family income is below 8 ₹ Lakh entitled to 10% reservation within the EWS quota. Approximately 4% of the contributions are reserved for PWBD candidates at the civil service exam.
