Jana Sena MP Kakinada Tangella Uday Srinivas on Saturday announced that the State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM) at Uppada will be open for academic activities by August after inspecting the ongoing construction activities of the institution. Work is underway on the administrative building, academic blocks, dormitory and laboratory facilities.
The Department of Tourism has released ₹12 crore for the construction of a SIHM campus on a five-acre plot in Uppada to offer a hotel management course to address youth unemployment in Andhra Pradesh. Construction activity has reportedly been delayed due to lack of funding from the center in 2019-2024.
“At least 95% of the construction work has been completed. However, the Ministry of Tourism has been asked to provide ₹2 crore for road facilities at the SIHM campus,” Mr. Srinivas said in a report.
