Daniel Levy, chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, defended his decision by manager Ange Postecoglou, despite the Australian club leadership to their first trophy in 17 years – the European UEFA League.
The release came after the stormy season, in which Spurs, despite the lifting of the European League, closely avoided the descent by completing the 17th in the Premier League. Although the Levy was disappointed with the home form of the team, he still recognized Postecoglou’s earlier successes.
However, he acknowledged the need for greater consistency and competitiveness in all competitions, which eventually led to change.
“You saw the emotions with the show. It was just incredible. We won the European trophy. But that’s not enough. That’s what we didn’t do is more important. We have to win the league. We want to win the Premier League.
“We have to compete on all fronts and we felt a change,” he said. “It was difficult emotionally, but we believe it is the right decision for the club.”
He added: “I am very grateful. I do not regret my name Ange. In his first season we finished fifth and in our second season we were over the moon to win the trophy, but we have to compete in all competitions and felt we needed a change.
“Alone and his family are always welcome. It was a collective decision. It wasn’t my decision. We make everything together. It was difficult emotionally, but we believe we have made the right decision for the club,” Levy explained.
Tottenham has since announced the appointment of Thomas Frank for postcoglou compensation. Dane comes from Brentford, where he spent seven years and played a key role in promoting the club to the highest flight. Under his leadership, Brentford has remained aside from the Premier League since 2021, and Frank became the second longest manager in the division before his departure.
Levy was full of praise for Frank, especially emphasizing his ability to develop young talents and his versatile managerial qualities.
“One of the things that has excelled in Thomas is that he is very intelligent. A big communicator. The highest human being. And of course it brings all the technical qualities they care about.”
Looking forward, the lion was clear about the ambition of the forwarding club.
“Whenever you bring a new coach, it’s a new beginning. You get new ideas. But our goal is to build on the success of last season and push for the next.”
