In the shocking incident, a 20 -year -old woman was reportedly raped on the famous Gopalpur beach in the Ganjam district in Odisha. On Tuesday, ten people were detained in connection with the incident, including four minors.
According to the police, there was an abominable incident on Sunday evening, when a woman, a university student at a private college, went to the beach with her boyfriend, who is a classmate, on the occasion of the Raja festival.
The victim in her complaint claimed that when she and her boyfriend sat in an isolated place on the beach, a group of 10 people approached them, rounded their friend, and alternated to rape her.
“Initially, seven people were detained for questioning. Later, all 10 accused were arrested,” police officer PTI said.
The defendants were charged while trying to escape to another state, he added.
SP Saravana Vivek M said, “While three people raped the woman again, seven others provided them with protection.”
“A special police team was created to explore the case. The police ask the court to treat minors as adults because they were involved in the abominable crime,” he said.
A woman’s medical examination was performed.
The victim lived in a private mess along with three other women.
