On the day of international domestic workers in domestic departments for domestic rights, Karnataka called on the Karnataka government to introduce a law similar to the law on the platform for domestic workers.
The workers gathered in Freedom Park submitted Meenu Patil, an assistant to work on work that demanded the Social Care Council, a working group with a dedicated line of assistance and the Institute of Tripartite advice to regulate the employment, working conditions and social security of household staff, among other things.
“Did not consider themselves workers”
“The recent introduction of four new government working codes is largely ignored by the critical problems of the informal sector, namely the exclusion of domestic workers, as seen in the Security and Security Act,” he read the Union’s statement.
It stressed that although in 2013–2014 the Indian government for domestic workers has developed national policy, it has never been presented in parliament.
The memorandum submitted to the Ministry of Labor called for ratification of the C189 Convention to facilitate the enactment of national legislation. Convention C189 is an international treaty that ensures that domestic workers have the same rights as other workers. India has not ratified it yet.
“We haven’t gotten the identity of workers. Many people see us with suspicion and treat us as criminals,” said Geeta Menon, Secretary of Stree Jagruti Samiti, addressing workers.

The Memorandum also demanded that workers be provided by constitutional rights to safety, health and social protection through the establishment of the compensation mechanism in the complaint and Council for the care of domestic workers, consisting of domestic workers and their trade unions.

Dwru called on the State Government to consider a committee composed of trade unions, experts on entities and domestic workers to recommend the legal framework for the benefit, protection and regulation of workers’ rights.
Other requirements included devices for intelligent cards and coverage of accident insurance for higher domestic workers and strict steps against agencies and employers involved in trading and use of workers.
“The Act on Agency for Placement must be enacted with the help of trade unions and workers. Instructions for trading in the Karnataka Supreme Court in 2015,” read the memorandum.
