
New Delhi: In a significant step aimed at strengthening citizens’ administration and easy business through better compensation, the government brought a government announcement on Monday.
This means that taxpayers or importers/exporters facing problems such as delay, harassment or poor service from these departments can now file their complaints at the Public Complaint Directorate (DPG), which works under the Secretariat of the Cabinet.
The decision is expected to improve government responsibility and ensure faster complaint solutions. Until now, such complaints had to be dealt with in the relevant departments.

The announcement is the main administrative step to improve the provision of public services in the two most sensitive weapons of income administration.
According to the official order, the Directorate of Public Complaints-March 1988 will now establish public complaints concerning selected central government offices-the complaints related to the tax department and the Central Council of indirect taxes and customs (CBIC).
“With the consent of the competent authority, the jurisdiction of the Public Complaints Directorate is extended to the Ministry of Income (Income Tax) and CBIC (problems related to customs),” she said.
According to a higher government official, the decision is part of a wider pressure towards the emergency room and responsible proceedings. “The Directorate, which works according to the Cabinet Secretariat, is entrusted to take individual cases of suffering or inactivity in the provision of public services and can recommend corrective measures at the highest level,” the official said.
In recent years, public complaints have gained renewed attention, and with increasing concerns about taxpayers’ services and procedural obstacles in customs commissions, especially as a result of India’s efforts to improve his easy business.
“For businesses like ours that operate in consumer goods and space development space, a unified and time -bound compensation complaint can significantly reduce procedural friction and increases operational efficiency. “This integration will also require greater response from the tax and customs departments, which would allow businesses to focus more on growth and innovation than on navigation of bureaucratic obstacles,” Saxena added.
The Directorate already includes a department, such as contributions, railways and telecommunications, and the latest expansion is considered to be a signal of the government plan to bring critical public interfaces under greater control and responsibility.
“It is a sophisticated step of the government to seize citizens and traders who often face problems with these two departments. Now they will have a better mechanism of complaints about addressing and resolving their cases,” said Dathesh Parulekar, associate professor of international relations at Goa University.
However, the textile exporter based in Gurgaon, which he wanted to be named, said that this step would be provided by traders who often try to get a GST, and must run from the pillar to publish their problems.

The State Minister of the Union (independent fee) for the Jitendra Singh staff said in a written response in Lok Sabha 2. April that more than 29 lake public complaints received by the government through the reserved online platform were corrected in 2024.
Complaints were received on centralized public compensation and monitoring system (CPRGRAMS) – an online platform where citizens can cause complaints.

“A total of 1.15.52 503 complaints have been corrected since 2020-2024 and from January to December 2024 the annual historically highest maximum of 26.45 869 complaints (90.5%),” said Singh.
