
Minister of Water Resources Rosha Augustine announced on Monday (June 16) that the state government aims to provide drinking water of every household in Kerala.
He spoke after the start of the renovated Karal Thera Sree Maha Ganapaty Temple Pond to the 26 department from the Thalassery.
The Minister emphasized the government’s achievements and said that when the current administration came to the Keral Water Authority (KWA), only 17 lake households provided connection to drinking water.
“Today, this figure has increased to 44 lakh families. The offers have already been floated for projects to ensure drinking water supply to all houses,” he added.
The event was chaired by the lecturer of the Assembly, which urged the public and the organizers to ensure the protection and maintenance of the reconstructed pond. He also recommended creating opportunities for children to learn swimming.
The reconstruction of the pond, which was carried out at the price of 65 lakh, included the construction of a five -meter retaining wall, the red stone steps to the bottom of the ponds, the fencing of the steel tube and the steel entrance gate. The surrounding areas were connected and beautified and a drainage system was installed. The reconstructed pond with a storage capacity of nine lakh liters is expected to be beneficial for agricultural and public needs.
The event was also attended by the chief engineer irrigation of P. Sridevi, Kozhikode Mi Circle Shala Sudhan, auxiliary engineer Manu Mohan, municipal councilor and cultural and political representatives.
