Indian Environment Minister BHUPENDRA YADAV called on the Big Cat Range to actively cooperate on the initiatives of the International Alliance Big Cat (IBCA) and emphasize collective actions to protect and protect seven large large cat species and their habitats.
IBCA, launched by India in 2024, is a global initiative, including 95 countries that are entrusted with the investigation of tigers, lions, leopards, snow leopards, cheetahs, jaguars and bombs.
On 29 February 2024, the Cabinet of the Union of Narendra Modi approved the IBCA establishment with a disposable budget support £150 crore for five years from 2023-24 to 2027-28.
“India has become a global leader in the protection of wild animals and has shown remarkable achievements over the last decade,” said Yadav, who chaired the first Assembly of IBCA in Nový Dilli in Monday.
The Assembly, the IBCA top body, was attended by a ministerial delegation from nine countries – Bhutan, Cambodia, Eswatini, Guinea, India, Liberia, Surinam, Somalia and Kazakhstan.
“India is ready to cooperate with all IBCA members to adapt the best models-credited local contexts-to cooperate innovative solutions that provide the future of large cats and their landscapes around the world,” the Minister said on the X-Social Media platform.
The assembly unanimously approved Yadava as President IBCA. He also supported SP Yadava as the IBCA CEO.
The Assembly also approved the Proceedings of the First International Meeting of the IBCA management committee, which took place in April 2024, ratified an IBCA agreement with India, approved the work plan, rules of the Assembly and IBCA. These will serve as the main foundation for effective management, operations and initiatives of IBCA.
The main objective of IBCA is to facilitate cooperation and synergy between countries and other parties involved, to strengthen successful protection procedures and expertise to achieve the common goal of maintaining large cats at the global level.
The aim of this unified approach, reinforced by financial support, is to increase the agenda of the protection of biodiversity, stop the decline in populations of large cats and preserve ecology.
