Kerala Police has downgraded Pinarayi Vijayan’s personal security level from Z+ to Y category
Kerala Police downgraded Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan’s personal security from Z+ to Y.
This was decided by the Security Control Coordination Committee, which also reviewed security measures to protect other VIPs, including politicians and court officials.
Mr. Vijayan will have a pilot vehicle on the road instead of a convoy. His security detail will also include two personal guards (PSG).
Revised security classifications were issued to inspectors general, deputy inspectors general and district police chiefs a few days ago. The review was conducted to assess the existing threat levels of various leaders, official sources said.
The Governor and the Chief Minister have been assigned the highest security category Z+, while the Ministers of State, the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker will receive security category Y with retinue.
Among senior politicians, former chief minister AK Antony will get Z category security. Union Home Minister of State for Petroleum and Tourism Suresh Gopi, Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) General Secretary MA Baby and CPI(M) leader P. Jayarajan have been assigned security category Y. CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan will receive category X security.
The police have also reduced or withdrawn the security they previously provided to various leaders. Hindu Aikya Vedi leader Valsan Thillankeri, who earlier had two PSGs, will have only one under the revised security arrangements. Besides, the security of BJP state general secretary MT Ramesh has been withdrawn.
