The State Election Commission (SEC) has conducted the counting of votes in 577 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) and 7,707 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC) on Saturday, November 7. Elections to these rural local bodies were held on 5 November.

The TDP-led alliance decimated the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in the recent municipal body (ULB) elections, with TDP and Jana Sena Party (JSP) winning 10 and 2 mayoral seats respectively. The YSRCP won only one mayoral seat and its performance in the Municipal and Nagar Panchayats elections was also dismal.

State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha said in a press release that the notification for holding second regular elections to ZPTC and MPTC was issued on October 19. According to the original schedule, the vote was to be held on November 3, and a repeat vote, if any, the next day (November 4). Counting of votes and announcement of results was scheduled for November 5.

However, due to the change in the election schedule of ULBs in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Court dated October 21, the Commission had to move the polling date for ZPTC and MPTC from November 3 to November 5 and rescheduled from November 4 to 6. As a result, the counting of votes and the announcement of the results were postponed to November 7.

The SEC declared 77 ZPTCs and 2,051 MPTCs unanimously elected. Elections for the remaining ZPTC and MPTC (577 and 7,707 respectively) were held on 5 November. The final voting percentage was 70.72, a 9.81% increase over the 60.91% recorded in the 2021 election.

The enumeration will be started in 365 centers across the state in which about 11,002 head enumerators and 28,692 assistants / staff have been deployed. The process will begin with the counting of postal ballots.

About 19,885 police officers of various capacities (135 DSP / Additional SP, 572 CI/RI, 1,412 SI/RSI, 3,996 ARSI/ASI/HC/ARHC, 10,881 PC/ARPC, 2,889 three-tier security services)889 CCTV cameras, drones and body-worn cameras have been installed in sensitive areas.
