Karnataka aims to train 5,000 government school teachers across the state in basic artificial intelligence (AI) literacy under JanAI, an initiative of the Head Held High Foundation.

The initiative was announced by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in Namma Shaale, Namma Javabdari programme.

The initiative seeks to equip teachers with the essential knowledge and practical skills to understand and use AI tools in their professional roles, while ensuring that technology is adopted safely, responsibly and meaningfully in classrooms.

The program will be implemented for a period of 12 months, from January to December 2027, in coordination with the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Karnataka.

The training will cover the basics of artificial intelligence and its relevance to education; using off-the-shelf artificial intelligence tools; effective prompting and interaction; and applications of artificial intelligence in lesson preparation, teaching, learning and productivity. A key component will focus on the responsible adoption of AI, including understanding the limitations of AI-generated information, identifying misinformation and potential bias, protecting student data, and ensuring privacy and security.

The program is designed to be accessible to teachers without prior knowledge of artificial intelligence and will be adapted to their needs.
